A top priority at Casa Dorinda is our residents' health and
well-being. The entire staff is dedicated to providing the
environment and services to ensure that all residents enjoy the
highest state of health.
Casa Dorinda offers every level of care - a walk-in clinic for
those in residential apartments, Assisted Living accommodations for
those needing assistance with activities of daily living, and a state
of the art Medical
Center for
residents who eventually need a Skilled Nursing Facility. Every room
in the Medical Center is a private room for the comfort and convenience
of residents. Casa Dorinda has one of the most up-to-date,
comprehensive medical programs in the nation, unequaled in quality
and services.
The Casa's aim is to keep all residents at the highest level of
independence that their condition permits. Our medical programs
continually focus on wellness by providing education and
opportunities to keep residents active and informed. An in-house
physical therapist makes it unnecessary for anyone to leave the
premises in order to obtain these important services.
All persons hired as part of the Casa's health services are
carefully screened for their ability to competently and
compassionately serve the special needs of the individuals in their
care.
At Casa Dorinda, you can enjoy life to its fullest, knowing that
you have access to the latest in medical technology backed by a
skilled and supportive staff.
Physician's Services
A resident may choose any licensed physician in good standing for
medical services - either from a group practice such as the Sansum
Clinic, or any physician in private practice. Each resident's
personally selected doctor makes the important decisions about his or
her care, backed up by the Casa's fine staff of experts in the health
care field.
The Clinic
Casa Dorinda's on-campus clinic is staffed by licensed nurses and
certified nursing assistants who also can provide intermittent
nursing services for residents in their apartments. The clinic staff
also provides assistance with personal care routines when needed.
Assisted Living Care
Should a resident require permanent personal care assistance, Casa
Dorinda will make arrangements for the resident's transfer to the
Casa's Personal Care Unit. The resident, the family and the
resident's personal physician along with the Casa assessment team
make this determination as a joint decision.
Medial Center Care
Casa Dorinda has a beautiful 52-private-room Medical Center.
Residents suffering from a temporary illness or recuperating from
surgery are cared for in the Medical Center
until they are able to return to their apartments. Residents
requiring full-time Skilled Nursing services or custodial care are
moved permanently to the Medical
Center.
Acute
Hospital Care
Acute Hospital
care is provided at no charge at any Medicare-certified hospital. All
hospital and physician services rendered during an acute hospital
stay are also covered.
Emergency Care
Licensed nurses are prepared to respond to any medical emergency 24
hours a day. Each apartment is equipped with two emergency call
systems for the resident to summon help. Casa Dorinda also covers
most emergency care when a resident is away for the Casa within the United States.
No Additional Fees
Admission to the Casa's Medical
Center or
Personal Care Unit never requires an additional fee. When admitted to
the Medical
Center (either
temporarily or permanently) or to the Personal Care Unit, a resident
continues to pay the same monthly fee as when residing in a
residential apartment. In the event that a spouse is temporarily
hospitalized or permanently transferred to the Medial Center
or Personal Care Unit, no additional charges are added to the monthly
fees.
Medial Deduction for Income Tax Purposes
The U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has ruled that a portion of
the Entry Fee paid to Casa Dorinda may be used as a pre-paid medical
expense for income tax purposes for the year in which the Entry Fee
is paid. This can be a significant deduction for income tax purposes.
The IRS also recognizes that a portion of the Monthly Fee is
attributable to medical expense and therefore is deductible. A new
resident is advised to discuss these deductions with the Casa Dorinda
Associate Director and with a personal accountant.
Medical Program
New residents must be participant in Medicare. Medicare pays
approximately 80% and Casa pays the balance of most medical services.
This generally includes physician's visits, surgery and inpatient
hospitalization, eyeglasses, post-op, and deductibles.
Casa does not pay for pharmaceuticals, dental care, non-Medicare
providers, and non-covered Medicare services (routine exams, eye
refractions, and supplies). Annual therapy limit is $1,500.
Casa Dorinda does not require supplemental insurance or Long-Term
care Insurance. Supplemental insurance coverage is suggested for the
following:
